Senior Technical Officer in the Department of Earth Sciences (Ref.: 527261) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Earth Sciences/Material Sciences/Chemistry or related discipline, with at least 3-5 years’ solid hands-on laboratory experience in electron microscopy (especially EPMA), and a strong background in mineralogy and geochemistry. Experience in electronics and instrumentation troubleshooting is preferred. Applicants should also have an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and supervisory skills; and be self-motivated.  They should be diligent, responsible, and able to work independently and effectively under pressure.

The appointee will manage, operate and maintain the EPMA facility, which is equipped with analyzers and detectors from scanning electron microscopy, wavelength dispersive and energy dispersive XRF spectroscopy and CL imaging, and will assist in facilitating innovative research across the earth sciences. The appointee will also assist in the preparation of tender/purchase orders for the procurement of laboratory equipment/consumables; provide technical advice for the future development of the research facility; and perform any other duties as assigned.
